A small starting route for German A1 practice

Connect simple words with their articles and build short sentences. Use this route to choose a useful exercise; it does not assess your language level.

What A1 means here

A1 is the first CEFR level, covering familiar words, simple expressions and basic everyday situations. Despiel offers selected vocabulary and sentence-building practice. Listening, speaking and connected writing need additional practice.

Start with noun articles

Choose der, die or das for a noun. For a short round, you can choose 10 questions and leave the timer off. Feedback shows the correct article. The button preselects A1; check the other settings before starting.

Connect vocabulary with Memory

Match German words to their meanings. Five pairs make a manageable starting board. Choose speed or fewer moves as your goal. With German card language, a meaning is a short definition; card language stays fixed during the round.

Set up A1 Memory

Build simple sentences

Arrange word tiles into a sentence. Think before submitting: your first answer counts. Afterwards you see a correct sentence, its translation and an explanation. The game accepts prepared valid alternatives rather than every possible formulation.

Plan a short practice session

Choose one exercise and finish the round. Read the feedback, then try another mechanic if useful. Only completed rounds receive ordinary rewards. You can begin as a guest and transfer progress when registering or signing in.

Article example

das Kissen

the cushion

Kissen is neuter: its definite article in the nominative singular is das. Learn the noun together with its article.

Vocabulary example

der Schal

scarf

A Schal is a scarf worn around the neck. Connect the German noun with its meaning.

Sentence example

Mila kauft eine Banane.

Mila is buying a banana.

Mila is the subject, kauft the conjugated verb and eine Banane the object. The verb occupies second position in this simple statement.

Questions and answers

Does this cover all of A1?

No. The games strengthen selected skills. They are not a complete course and do not certify your level or guarantee an exam result.

Does the button start a round immediately?

No. It opens settings with A1 selected. Review the remaining options and start yourself. An existing round keeps its original conditions.

Can I choose a harder level later?

Yes. Select A2 or a mixed set in the settings. There is no automatic placement test and you do not need a particular score to choose a difficulty.
